Richard Hawk1973-1981: Recruited By Robert Shauver (New Castle) as a clarinetist.
1974: Played a jam session with Benny Goodman at Butler University after attending one of his performances. Studied his style from that day forward. 1981: Graduated High School and awarded “Outstanding Senior Bandsman”, “Louis Armstrong Jazz”, and “John Phillip Sousa” Award. 1981-1984: Graduate of the U.S. Army Element School of Music (1982); served as a Bandsman with the 101stAirborne Division Band (Fort Campbell, KY); formed the 101stAbn Air Assault Div Dixieland Combo and toured the United States for recruiting purposes, this combo still tours today (35 years later). 1985-1986: Studied at Ball State University under Rolf Legbandt as a Music Education and Performance Major; 1985-2008: Served in the Indiana Army National Guard as a Clarinetist in the 38thInfantry Division Band Performed with the Henry County Community Band since 2009; with the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and First United Methodist Church Chamber Orchestras since 2010; America’s Hometown Band (Muncie Community Band) since 2011; and Lapel Community Band and Jazz Ensamble since November 2011; the Clarinet Connection (Clarinet Choir from Muncie); Roselyn and the Rose City Jazz Kings since 2017. |
Kim StonekingKim started playing the trumpet in the 5th grade under the director of Lapel Community Band member Bob Shauver, in fact, Bob had just graduated from college and Kim was among Bob's first class of students.
Kim is a graduate of Ball State University with a major in instrumental music and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity. His professional life has included a career as a high school band director, private trumpet instruction, music arranger, and as a player in a number of brass groups and ensembles. In 2011 he started the Vantage Group where he serves as president and CEO. The organization specializes in business coaching and consulting to both for-profit and non-profit organizations. He and his wife Charla have been married 42 years and they have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. |
